Outgoing EKU Professors

April 27th, 2008 by admin

Below please find a couple of a caricatures for outgoing Eastern Kentucky University history professors. They were rendered digitally using Corel Painter using a customized scratchboard tool for the inking. Once the inking was completed black and white values were added using the the digital watercolor brush.

Catching Up

April 12th, 2008 by admin

This has been a great day regarding progress on the old drawing table. Some movement has been made on the wedding party caricatures as well as a commission of cheerleaders due next week. I’ve continued to squeeze jobs in but I believe this is the last one prior to completing the wedding caricatures.

The cheerleader layout was changed from a horizontal look to a vertical perspective to allow for a little trampoline action. As soon as the sketch is approved the rough pencil will be shared here.

A New Beginning (Once Again)

April 5th, 2008 by admin

Rob MaysteadI’ve created this blog to communicate the process of caricature as it is happening. A glimpse behind the curtain, provide a bit of running commentary - some insight. To this point I’ve not been very successful at this venture.

Lately I’ve been involved in two jobs. The first has been a project that is going on eight months. The client is a young lady from Canada who is getting married in June. She has commissioned me to do 8″ x 10″ color digital caricatures of her 16-member wedding party. This has been a treat but a quick glance at the calendar reveals that there is far more sand in the bottom of the hourglass. I have to get moving.

The second job is one that I’ve just completed and will post here shortly. The scene is a old car with four young renegades inside. Two with guns. It is rendered digitally as well but exclusively in black and white. A pen and ink look with a gray wash. I guess most would say that it has a MAD magazine (Mort Drucker, Jack Davis) feel to it. The young man who commissioned this piece is interested in using it for the cover of his first comic book. I’ll share the completed cover image once it is published.

I simply lost the blog during a mad, senseless mouse click.
